The flow state has been defined as "an intrinsic reward for participation in an activity (Csikszentmihalyi, 1977), an optimal state that occurs when there is a balance between the perceived challenges of a situation and a person’s skills or capabilities for action (Csikszentmihalyi, 1990), as a centering of attention on a limited stimulus field (Webster, Trevino, and Ryan, 1993), and is characterized by a heightened sense of playfulness (Webster and Martocchio, 1992), self control (Ghani and Deshpande. 1994), increased learning (Canter, Rivers and Storrs, 1985), and increased positive subjective experiences (Csikszentmihalyi, 1977).
